Worse Travel Insurance - Keeps delaying claims, rude, and won't pay for honest claims
With my daughter traveling around UK and Europe on her own it took me a long time to select a travel insurance that would ensure she was cover, being covered by alliance I was sure this company would be respectable. How wrong could I be.
My daughter was staying at a Hostel in Wales, she left her personal belongings out of sight under her bed. The next day she found that her camera had been stolen overnight. She did all the right things by contacting the reception, calling the police and obtaining a police report. I had to console my daughter over the phone as this camera is the reason why she is traveling. She had saved for years for this trip and camera. I reassured her over the phone that it would be ok and that is why we purchased Travel Insurance.
How wrong can a mother be, this company refuses to pay based on "she left her camera in a public place". After asking the same questions 3 times - yes having to wait 10 working days each time, this is the answer they came back with. I then disputed the claim in which I had to wait another 5 working days (which actually took them 6) to say that her bed is a public place. Well I don't know about you, but calling my 18 year olds bed a public place is beyond a joke. How dare they call my daughters bed a public place.
They have been beyond rude on the phone, have only had one nice lady talk to me and said she also found it quite unusual to call a bed a public place.
I would be very careful if you think you will be covered by this insurance company if you lose or have an item stolen as they class everything as a public place and that is how they get out of paying. I would agree with them if she had been careless and left her belongings in the common area, but this is where she slept. She has not only been violated by someone taking something where she slept but also by 1Cover Travel Insurance, which seriously is not worth anything.
For those that have written good reviews on this company, thank god you have not had to claim. I had called them before taking this claim and they had assured me this camera would be covered, it's the only reason why we purchased this insurance.
for anyone that is in the same boat as me, I will be taking this to the FOS, the more people that complain the better, we need to put a stop to companies such as these that take advantage over people. It's no wonder why people do not trust Insurance Companies.
