Highly recommend CGU for home insurance

We have been with CGU for nine years now. Two years ago I had to make my second claim after our Perth home was broken into. I have nothing but praise for CGU. We were interstate at the time and my granddaughter was looking after our house to feed our dog (clearly not the best guard dog), when we got the dreaded call. Our granddaughter was distraught, however we were just thankful that she wasn't there at the time. In broad daylight (between 11am and 3pm) on a Sunday our house was broken into and many of our possessions were stolen. It is a terrifying feeling, knowing that complete strangers have broken into your personal space and have taken what is yours. We phoned CGU immediately after calling the police and the staff were amazing. They were compassionate to how we were feeling and took the time to clearly outline their processes and the actions that we needed to take to submit a claim. Fortunately I had previously made a claim a few years prior so I knew to keep all manuals and receipts of our belongings to prove ownership. I had also taken photos of my jewellery. This definitely assisted to make the claims process a smooth one. Obviously, insurance claims are rort with exaggerations on the value of items so receipts go a long way to assist in verification. Our two tvs were replaced new for old (not sure if this was because they were less than 12 months old or if standard) and for the jewellery, I was given a credit voucher for a chosen jeweller once total value was confirmed. I guess the worst part was the irreplaceable, sentimental pieces that cannot be replaced or have a true value placed on them. Of course this is of no fault of CGU; no insurer can replace these items. I would like to take this opportunity to thank CGU for making the best of a bad situation and easing our pain at a difficult time. Our claim was sorted quickly and we had replacement items in no time at all.
