Everyday Insurance from Woolworths review by Mike

Sleasy business ethic

Don't use Woolworths / Holland insurance, they use your credit card to renew the policy when the 12 month policy is due to expire. This is unauthorised use of a credit card as far as i'm concerned. If you read the documentation they provide after paying the first years premium it does say automatic renewal by Direct Debit but to me that means direct debit payment from a bank account sent up by me, not them taking payment from my credit card. At the time of taking out the policy i was unaware the policy would be renewed automatically and I did not authorise them to keep my credit card details on their system. Other businesses ask if you want to store your card details on their system. I've been purchasing insurance for 45 years and I have never seen a policy that is automatically renewed at the end of the 12 months. The insurance is a 12 month contract and that's it. When I received the policy document by email the email said that the Product Disclosure Statement was attached to the email but it was not, obvious now why that was the case.
I was away when the renewal came through and arrived home on the day the policy was to expire and my intention was to check the policy renewal premium and take out a new contract either with Woolworths or another provider. As the Woolworths premium had gone up 22% (so much for the cheap insurance) I decided to purchase alternative insurance. Took out cheaper insurance with another company before the Woolworths insurance expired only to find that Woolworths had also taken the new inflated premium cost from my credit card. This was late at night and of course you cannot speak to them at night so I phoned them the next day. That was 10 days ago and still no refund. Amazing how quickly it comes out of your credit card when they take it and how slow it is when they have to put it back.
This issue on top of Woolworths deleting the Qantas FF rewards scheme means we will no longer be shopping for anything at Woolworths, have you noticed how busy Aldi has become of late? I hope Aldi put more checkout staff on or they will receive complaints for slow service due to the huge increase in business as people move from Woolworths.
Bottom line, stay well away from the sleazy business ethics of Woolworths.
