Why is this Phillippines based company allowed to operate in Australia?
My trip to India was cut short when I became severely ill last January with what I believed at the time to be pneumonia ( I have a medical background BTW). I rescheduled my flight to come home the next day which cost me over $2000. I saw my GP the day I came home who certified I was unfit to travel and made the right decision to come home when I did. I believe in retrospect I would have died if I had stayed in India. They rejected my claim on the basis I had not obtained a doctor's certificate before leaving India and had not sought their "permission" to fly home. Section 3 /1 of the policy document states I needed to have my treating doctor certify I was unfit to travel with my original itinerary which I did on my return. It does not clearly state that I should have done this prior to having left India. They have avoided paying me based on clause B1-2 ".... and if Insureandgo approve this! What a a convenient loophole. So basically if Insureandgo don't approve your claim they won't pay up. I suggest you read their policy schedule fully before signing up and realize they are based in the Philippines and have no company representatives in Australia you can deal with face to face. Two lessons I have learned here: 1) always read the policy fully before agreeing to sign up and 2) you get what you pay for.
